The solution was informed by the title, a limited budget, and a desire to produce an unpretentious exhibition that members of the public could interact with. The brief asked for artworks to appear within the format of the last page of the magazine, supported by the title and a short description. From this starting point we produced a series of pads comprising multiple copies of each contribution. The pads were the same format as the magazine, with an extended backing board carrying the caption. Visitors were duly invited to create their own exhibition catalogue by tearing their favourite images from the wall.

The exhibition ran during London Design Week and visitors were encouraged to contribute their own Paper City work, using a blank template torn from a pad or downloaded from a website. The best entries filled blank spaces throughout the gallery, allowing the exhibition to evolve and giving visitors an opportunity to exhibit their work at The Royal Academy.
