The London Sinfonietta logo is a diagrammatic visualisation of a rotary octave – the interval between two musical notes. The circular frequency of the logo mirrors the fluctuating intensity of a musical composition.
The simple and direct visual language was a response to the limited budget typically associated with smaller independent institutions such as the Sinfonietta. Making a virtue of the variations in image quality, supplied photography was subjected to an array of graphic treatments bringing cohesion to a wide range of printed materials.
